iPhone 8 might come in three different sizes 2016

Apple might be adding another screen size for the release of the iPhone 8 next year.

In addition to a 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone 8, Apple might also sell a 5-inch model, according to sources who briefed the Nikkei Asian Review.

Adding a new 5-inch model would be a first for Apple. Since the iPhone 6, Apple's only released two "flagship" iPhones in the fall.

Apple switched things up this year by releasing the iPhone SE, an updated iPhone 5S, with a smaller 4-inch screen.

Nikkei's report also corroborates previous rumors that Apple will move to a new glass front and back design, reminiscent of the iPhone 4/4S and Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge. However, Nikkei warns Apple could change its mind.
Though the publication has correctly predicted some upcoming iPhone features in the past, I'm not convinced Apple would add a third screen size to the mix. The only way it could happen is if Apple dropped the 4.7-inch iPhone and replaced it with a 5-inch one.

Rumors suggest the iPhone 8 will sport a top-to-bottom redesign to mark the iPhone's 10th anniversary. Apple is reportedly going to remove the iconic Touch ID home button by placing its sensor underneath the display. Getting rid of the Touch ID button could make room for a slightly larger 5-inch screen to fit into the existing 4.7-inch body.

With the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus having just launched, it's way too soon to be talking iPhone 8. All rumors coming out should be taken with a grain of salt.
